The Whitman String Quartet, comprised of doctoral students and graduates, was founded at Stony Brook University in 2015. The ensemble has participated in the Philip Setzer String Quartet Intensive, and in the first class of the Emerson String Quartet Institute, studying standard classical and twentieth century repertoire in coaching and masterclass formats with all five recent members of the acclaimed Emerson String Quartet. The Whitman String Quartet also performs more contemporary and lesser known works for string quartet and with colleagues in other instrumentations. They are currently featured throughout Long Island on concert series hosted by North Shore Pro Musica, Three Village Chamber Players, and more.
